The Artifacts are comprised of scraps rescued from larger projects; usually found lying about the studio, underfoot, cluttering tabletops, or just casually tossed aside like so many random thoughts. And while lying there, they sometimes find new life in surprising juxtapositions; ending up reattached to something else altogether, before getting pinned to a modest frame—somewhat like a trophy banner or a battered flag.

You might say it’s an act of conservation, redemption even. But it’s really more like a conversation with the discards and remnants, whose random beauty sings to me from the studio floor. They are the scuff marks, the shoe prints, the shredded seams, the discordant color, the paint spills, errors in judgement—the endless pentimenti of discovery and abandonment—alongside my dangling blue threads of continuity. A process ever hopeful, even while being stitched together for a likely losing cause.
